JP President: Louisiana's double peak is not due to more testing

Why has Louisiana seen a second peak of COVID cases after flattening the curve?  Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng blames people letting their guard down and not more testing."Most states are not like that.  Most states had kind of one peak and flattened the curve.  Louisiana is one of the very few states that got the peak when New York got it, then got the peak when the rest of the Sunbelt states got it.  So, it's been difficult for us as a state, and we are still increasing."The parish president says those trying to dismiss the spike as just the result of higher levels of testing, do not understand the data."No, COVID is here at a great rate. Even though we are testing a lot, the percent positive is higher than before. That's the critical thing."Louisiana has seen the numbers shoot back up after an effective effort to reduce them in April and May.

Meanwhile, Sheng says there are still some beds available in local hospitals."We're at about 67 percent capacity... ICU beds are just a point or two below that at 66 percent."
