The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating how a jail in-mate died while in solitary confinement.
According to Sheriff Joe Lopinto, it happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
Lopinto says the 48-year-old inmate was found ‘unresponsive’ inside a solitary holding cell in the jail booking area of the Correctional Center. Attempts to revive the inmate was unsuccessful.
A JPSO initial report says there was no evidence of ‘self-harm’ or external injures. The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office will do an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The inmate’s identity has not yet been released.
