The jaguar is back in his habitat today at Audubon Zoo.  The big cat that escaped last year and killed nine other animals will be back for the public to see starting this morning.

After Valerio escaped his enclosure and killed five alpaca, three foxes and one emu; Audubon officials promissed in July to make improvements.

"We'll be continuing the investigate the situation," Zoo Director Dr. Kyle Burks explained. "Then we will adjust our protocalls."

They later said Valerio bit through steel cables to create an opening in the top of the habitat and get out.

Now officials say they are ready to put the male jaguar back in his reinforced enclosure.

"Following several months of research, manufacturing and repairs, Audubon Zoo will reopen the jaguar habitat," Audubon Communications Specialist Annie Matherne said in a news release. "The Zoo has been caring for its male jaguar behind the scenes."

She says the exhibit was undergoing modifications that now will "exceed current industry standards."
