Twelve additional school systems reopen in Louisiana today as they shift to virtual and hybrid learning methods.
“So by the end of the week, that means we will have 46 school systems up and running in some format,” Louisiana Superintendent of Education, Cade Brumley told WWL First News.
Brumley says moving to online learning could be a problem for some students and families who do not have access to broadband internet.
“Right now we probably have about 75% of our students who have both a device and connectivity throughout the state. But 1-in-4 of our students are not connected to the internet,” said Brumley.
Brumley says teachers and administrators are working through the unique challenges of learning during a pandemic.
“We are seeing a ton of innovations in the field,” said Brumley. “I am impressed with those innovations. I think that education will be fundamentally changed coming out of this, in a positive way. We just have to continue to look for solutions.”
