Louisiana's Office of Motor Vehicles has suspended the $5.99 charge for the driver license app on smartphones through May in an move to get more people to electronically carry their license.

Touting the convenience of having your license securely on a smartphone means it's always with you.

The license app is accepted as identification by Louisiana State Police.  It's also accepted by restaurants, bars, casinos, and other venues requiring age verification and identification.  OMV says acceptance by the TSA is also pending.

The license on your app is good for as long as your license is valid.  When your license expires, so does the app.  So you will need purchase the app once again when getting your license renewed.

According to the OMV, the license app makes sense as most people never leave home without their smart phone.
