Southwestern Louisiana officials are experiencing something familiar to New Orleanians -- concerns the will to help them rebuild won't be there.

It is a feeling all too familiar for those who lived through Hurricane Katrina, or Rita, fifteen years ago. Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter says this time, you can see evidence of lessons learned since 2005. New buildings constructed since building codes changed show less damage

"That is a sign that as we progress with development codes, we can build a better and more resilient Lake Charles."

The mayor also points out that a lot of energy infrastructure, from oil refineries to liquid natural gas production, are in the region, and it is in America's interest to make sure it is restored.

"Lake Charles needs America, but America needs Lake Charles," said Hunter. "And Lake Charles needs its people back."
