Your world champion Eastbank All-Stars will be honored tonight in the final Baby Cakes game at the Shrine on Airline. The Little League World Series winners will throw out the first pitch tonight.
So how does that work, when an entire baseball team throws the first pitch? Alex Knudsen with the Baby Cakes says it's a relay between players, similar to how they did the first pitch at the Little League World Series.
"It started with centerfield and they literally would relay the first pitch down to the pitchers mound where they would throw the ball," said Alex Knudsen with the Baby Cakes, "and that was the official, like, kickoff to the game."
Afterwards, the kids will get to stay and watch the Baby Cakes take on the Memphis Redbirds.
"We're just going to have a party for them," said Knudsen.
The Baby Cakes, eliminated from the playoffs, then finish their season on the road -- and then they're done, off to Wichita, Kansas. Meanwhile, New Orleans' baseball future is uncertain. While there has been some talk about finding a AA team to make the Shrine on Airline their home, local officials say the Baby Cakes haven't officially notified them that they will break their lease, so the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District can't officially approach any other teams.
