This year's Legislative session is over.
House Republican Chairman Lance Harris feels overall it’s been a great session. He said the controversial fetal heartbeat abortion ban, already signed into law by Governor Edwards was the most controversial this session.
“I’m 100% pro-life," Harris said. "I thought that was a good bill. It reflects, in my district, most of my constituents thoughts and beliefs.”
Harris added there were some measures that for one reason or another didn’t make it through the session, including the effort to save Louisiana drivers money on rates for auto insurance.
“One of them was the insurance omnibus bill which would have brought down automobile insurance," said Harris. "I think it’s terrible that we are still going to be paying the second highest insurance rate in the country.”
Harris was onboard of the effort to also save Louisiana taxpayers money by lowering the state’s sales tax rate. However that ultimately failed for the session.
“I think we had a very good debate about it," said Harris. "I’m a little disappointed that we weren’t able to give our taxpayers some of the money back that I think we over collected, but that’s how the process goes and we’ll try again next year.”
