Laine Hardy's song list on the way to winning the top spot as the nation's newest American Idol reads like a cross section of rock'n roll:

  • “Come Together” by The Beatles
  • “The Weight” by The Band
  • "That’s Alright Mama by Elvis Presley
  • “Fat Bottomed Girls” by Queen
  • “I Don’t Need No Doctor” by Ray Charles
  •  “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry
  • “Something About the Way You Look Tonight” by Elton John
  • “Can’t You See” by the Marshall Tucker Band
  • “Hey Jude” by The Beatles

The 18-year-old from Livingston, who got knocked out of last years competition, clawed his way to the top winning over judges and viewers alike.

Hardy's music teacher Tim Richardson told the Advocate, "We're incredibly proud.  He deserved it.  He's such a talented young man and he's such a good young man."

As Hardy's star power on the show rose, he was honored during a quick trip home with a parade and declaration by Governor John Bel Edwards of "Laine Hardy Day" in the state.

Last night, residents of Livingston gathered in a park to watch the three hour event live.  Friends and family cheered as he sang the Hank Williams classic "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)".

Louisiana has fielded two previous contestants on American Idol.  He's the first native to take it all.
