It looked like LSU was heading to a disappointing sixth straight loss. But in the 8th inning, with two runners on base, Antoine Duplantis lifted a high fly ball that soared over the right field wall. Duplantis ninth home run of the season were the only runs scored on the day for LSU, but the Tigers will take the 3-2 victory against one of the top teams in the SEC.
After giving up double digit runs over the last four games, LSU finally got some excellent pitching. Freshman Landon Marceaux gave up a run in the first inning, but ended up going five innings, allowing just two runs. Todd Peterson was outstanding out of the bullpen, throwing four shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Arkansas had a chance to put the game away in the 6th inning. The Hogs had the bases loaded with nobody out and already a run in, but Peterson got two ground balls to get out of the inning. The second ground ball produced an inning ending double play.
The much needed victory gives LSU a 31-21 record, 15-12 in the SEC.
The Bayou Bengals wrap up the regular season by hosting UNO on Tuesday and then Auburn comes to Baton Rouge for an SEC series that starts on Thursday.
