Early voting began Saturday for Louisiana's October 12th election, but polls are closed today (Sunday).

After the one-day hiatus, early voting locations will re-open Monday, September 30th, through Saturday, October 5th. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin says early voting locations will be open daily during that period, from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to have new voting equipment for early voting and we think the voters will have a good experience,” said Ardoin.

The October 12th election includes the gubernatorial primary. Election day also just happens to be the day of an SEC matchup at Tiger Stadium, and Ardoin knows that makes it hard for voters to show up and vote.  He is encouraging voters to take care of early voting.

“LSU will be playing at home against the Florida Gators and as we all know once football is kicked off, people are all about football, so we want to remind people to early vote if they plan on going to the LSU game," Ardoin noted.

Early voting typically represents 20-25% of all votes cast.  Those who vote will need to show their photo ID or the LA Wallet app.  Ardoin says if you need to know where to go for early voting, they’ve got all the info you need online.

“I encourage anyone to go to geauxvote.com, which is our voter portal, and look up their local voting site,” said Ardoin.
