LSU’s defense finally looked like it’s old dominant self in the regular-season finale and in the SEC championship after an up and down year.  Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda says a key was building up depth in the secondary, which allowed Grant Delpit and Jacoby Stevens to make plays.

“The emergence of  Cordale Flott and Maurice Hampton has freed up other defenders to do different things, so I think earlier in the year when we did not have that depth I thought a lot of our DBs were covering guys, when we added more DB depth, we added the ability for DBs to blitz and do other things,” Aranda said.

Aranda says he’s proud of this defense because they strived to get better despite all of the team’s success.

“The ability when you are winning to look at yourself critically and what can I do better and how can I improve some of that stuff is hard when you are winning,” said Aranda.

There were reports after the SEC Championship game that Aranda was interested in a head coaching job at UNLV. Aranda admits to speaking with UNLV and says he'd like to be a head coach one day.

“Any time you are presented with an opportunity I think for you and your family you want to be able to look into it, it was just preliminary talks and there was nothing more than that,” said Aranda.
