A second poll released this week shows Saturday’s election for governor is a virtual tie. The JMC Analytics survey of 600 Louisiana voters finds Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards and Republican challenger Eddie Rispone each getting 45% of the vote. Pollster John Couvillon says it all comes down to turnout.
“I’m of the opinion you’re probably looking at a 20-to-40,000 vote race in terms of the margin separating both candidates,” said Couvillon.
Couvillon is predicting a turnout of at least 52%. He says north Louisiana and African American voters will have a big say in this election.
“What percent of the Abraham vote can Rispone hold on to and number two what the level of black turnout will be, because it’s been elevated throughout the run-off season,” said Couvillon.
Couvillon believes voters made up their mind a long time ago, based on his voting polling throughout the race.
“All of those TV ads and so forth, really are not mattering at this point, it’s going to be much more of a turnout exercise than who you are going to try and persuade,” said Couvillon.
