Louisiana State Police say a 16-year-old girl escaped captivity in New Orleans where she had been repeatedly raped and beaten, and a 42-year-old man is under arrest.
"Troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations – Special Victims Unit (SVU) along with the U.S. Marshals Service and New Orleans Police Department arrested 42-year-old Melvin Davis of New Orleans for multiple charges in connection with trafficking a child for sexual purposes," State Police said in a news release.
Additional charges and arrests are forthcoming, said authorities.
Davis was booked into jail in New Orleans on charges of third degree rape, trafficking of children for sexual purposes, felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession with intent to distrubute a controlled dangerous substance.
