LSU executive deputy athletics director Verge Ausberry says it will not be the NCAA who will determine if the Tigers will kick off their football season in September. Ausberry says that decision will be made by the SEC and university leaders. He says they are planning for numerous scenarios.
“We got all kinds of models, 12-game model, 11-game model, 10-game model, start the season a week or two later or a month later, but right now at this time it’s still too early to make a decision on that,” said Ausberry.
Ausberry says it’s also too soon to decide if fans will be allowed inside Tiger Stadium for games.
“That’s a very difficult question, how is going to look in the fall, do we screen everybody, take temperatures of everybody going into the stadium, social distancing, do we skip a seat, those type of things,” said Ausberry.
Ausberry hopes student-athletes can get back on campus in June. He says the football coaches returned to their offices about two weeks ago.
“So Coach ‘O’ is already game planning, he’s ahead of about four games already, they’re ready to go, just communicating with their players and getting them back in shape,” said Ausberry.
