With the ingenuity of veterinarians and students at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, and the help of LEGO interlocking bricks, a two-legged turtle named Pedro can now wheel himself around.
Pedro was already a three-legged turtle when he was adopted by Sandra Traylor. After a recent escape from his enclosure, he lost his other hind leg. That's when Traylor turned to LSU for help.
The LSU vets found that for the most part, Pedro was medically okay. The wounds that cost him his hind legs had healed up, so the lack of mobility was the main issue.
With the help of a LEGO car kit and some epoxy, LSU veterinarian Kelly Rockwell and some students rigged up a set of rear wheels, and now Pedro can move about his owner's house.
