LSU Fighting Tigers defensive end Rashard Lawrence will undergo surgery on his right knee and miss spring practice, according to a report in The Advocate.

Lawrence was projected to be a pick in the second or third round of the NFL draft, but he instead opted to come back and play one more year at LSU.

Lawrence capped a 54-tackle season with a defensive MVP performance in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day. Lawrence recorded two sacks and four tackles for lost yardage in the 40-32 win over Central Florida.

Spring practice for the Fighting Tigers begins March 7, and the season opens August 31 against Georgia Southern.
