In a virtual graduation ceremony, New Orleans Saints Safety Malcolm Jenkins gives an inspirational speech to the Philadelphia School District 2020 graduating class.

Jenkins was one of the key note speakers who appeared in the live stream video. He gave an inspiring and motivating speech about the future and possible career paths the high school graduating students could have.

He addressed the challenges the students faced, including COVID-19 and the social unrest in Philadelphia and across the country.

“It is our civic duty to understand who is making decisions on our behalf and letting them know what is important to us, to have a safe community, one that offers us employment, housing and good resources in good times and in times like this, when we need our police to work alongside us, and when they fail, they are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law like every other citizen,” Jenkins said to the graduating class.

“I am hopeful today, because as I look across our country and across this city I see millions of people on one accord. I can feel our countries eyes being opened even if we had to shake her from our slumber,” said Jenkins.

Jenkins has had some strong words for his fellow teammate, Saints quarterback, Dree Brees for his thoughts on what the American flag means to him and why he said he cannot support disrespecting the flag.

As I was trying to muster up the energy and find the words to address Drew Brees’s comments I recorded this video. Before I could post it, Drew reached out to me to discuss his point of view. All in all, I’m still posting this video because it’s important for anyone who wants to consider themself an ally to know how these words and actions affect those who you want to help. Drew’s words during his interview were extremely painful to hear and I hope he rectifies them with real action.

Brees has since publicly apologized.

To @realdonaldtrumpThrough my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates, and leaders in the black community, I realize this is not an issue about the American flag. It has never been. We can no longer use the… https://t.co/zcw1NMZF2W
