Tashonty Toney, the man accused of killing two people and injuring several others by driving drunk into a pack of cyclists in early March has been denied a request to have his bond reduced.

He faces two counts of vehicular homicide, 11 counts of vehicular negligent injuring and hit and run. Toney has been held in jail on $510,000 bond since shortly after the crash.

Toney's attorney appeared in court Thursday to argue that his client's bond should be reduced because Toney’s family feels he is not a flight risk or danger to the community. The family suggested he be allowed to wear an ankle bracelet.

Prosecutors said Toney committed a “crime of violence” and argued that he should be considered a flight risk because he fled the scene after striking several people.

The judge denied the bond, saying that the defense’s argument was insufficient.
