The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public in locating a suspect wanted for carjacking a vehicle occupied by two small children in Chalmette.
Sheriff James Pohlmann says 18-year-old Dedric Hurst is the suspect.
Hurst reportedly stole the vehicle as its owner, a woman seven months pregnant, was unloading groceries from her car.
To make matters worse, Hurst is said to have struck his victim with her car while making the getaway.
His ride didn’t last long as Hurst reportedly dumped the car a few blocks away with the two children still secured in their car seats, unharmed.
The Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives were able to identify Hurst through video surveillance and information from eyewitnesses.
St. Bernard Sheriffs are asking for the public’s help in finding Hurst.
