A resident of Jefferson Parish files a lawsuit against Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng over the parish’s mask mandate.
Clayton Cangelosi filed the lawsuit in federal court on Monday.
In a press conference last month, Cangelosi says he is filing the lawsuit because he feels no government body, including Jefferson Parish and Cynthia Lee Sheng, should force the public to wear masks and that it should be left to the individual to decide if they want to wear a mask. He says the parish mask mandate is a violation of his rights and the mandate violates a state law, which says masks can only be worn in public during designated holidays such as Halloween and Mardi Gras.
On Saturday, Governor John Bel Edwards announced a statewide mask mandate after a recent spike in COVID-19 cases across the state.
