Mayor LaToya Cantrell addressed her federal tax debt on Facebook.

The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reports Cantrell owes the IRS more than $95,000 in back taxes and the agency has placed a lein on her Broadmoor home. Her tax problems were revealed by The Lens during her 2017 mayoral campaign where she was hit with a nearly $30,000 lien on the same home.

"Unfortunately, our family has been struggling with this debt for years," the mayor wrote. "We are working with tax experts to resolve and pay this off as soon as possible."

She goes on to say many New Orleans residents face similar challenges.

"I still live on Louisiana Avenue Parkway like I always have, and will continue to work side by side, everyday with our residents, for a better future for all New Orleanians. We are all in this together.”
