New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell says in an interview with Essence Magazine that she doesn't think New Orleans media had treated her fairly.
The mayor was interviewed about her recent trip to Cuba. The magazine noted that her trip seemed to bring more scrutiny that a trip Mayor Mitch Landrieu took in 2016, and asked Mayor Cantrell if she thought she had been treated fairly about the trip. The mayor replied, "I have not received the benefit of the doubt from the media since the beginning of my tenure as mayor."
No official announcement of the trip was made beforehand, which was a departure from previous government officials' visits to the communist island nation. Bad timing came in to play when a bout of heavy rain and street flooding coincided with the trip, and word got out that the city had lowered the threshold for issuing citations from speed enforcement cameras.
