New Orleans and the Northshore get Carnival celebration underway today.

Jefferson Parish will begin to see parades soon.

But, some Metairie Carnival krewes are battling a decline in membership.

Recruitment efforts were underway Saturday at the Lakeside Shopping Center on the Veterans Memorial Boulevard parade route.

Four local krewes -- Athena, Excalibur, Isis and Pandora -- took part participated in a recruiting campaign at the mall.

Krewe members gathered to solicit new recruits to bolster memberships, which have seen a decline recently.

Jefferson Parish councilwoman, Jennifer Van Vrancken, also appeared at the recruiting session, in an effort to revive Metairie's Mardi Gras festivities.

Officials have made changes to the routes in Metairie this year, with some krewes ending at Clearview Mall for Family Gras, which organizers hope will boost parade attendance.
