Stocks finished modestly higher today, with some optimism about the U.S.-China trade talks providing some support.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 39 points, the Nasdaq Composite gained 46 and the S&P 500 edged up 6. U-S oil prices gave back a bit of their recent strong gains. May crude slipped 12 cents to settle at $62.46 a barrel, having earlier hit $62.99 - the highest level since early November.
Exxonmobil has been given the okay to block a shareholder proposal requiring the oil giant to set targets to substantially reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Exxon had argued that the resolution was misleading and would interfere with management responsibilities, and the Securities and Exchange Commission seemed to agree.
Many Netflix subscribers are about to get a bigger monthly bill. The streaming service is sending emails to subscribers about a price increase that starts in their next billing cycle.
