Louisiana State Police says they have seen a slight increase in fatal accidents despite the fact roads are a lot less traveled these days. Lt. Nick Manale says this is not a good time for you to get into a wreck and have to visit a hospital.
“Any undue burden to our healthcare system, to our emergency room, to our doctors, to our healthcare workers are unnecessary right now and the majority of these crashes are from completely preventable actions,” said Manale.
Manale says while there is a decrease in vehicles on state highways, there is an increase in careless or distracted driving.
He says just because you may have the roads to yourself does not mean you can start neglecting your basic driver safety.
“Use every precaution, make sure you are not driving distracted, not driving impaired, making sure every passenger in the vehicle properly restrained, always wearing their seat belt,” said Manale.
