
The Northshore is about to benefit from the addition of 1700 new direct and indirect jobs as Medline Industries and Ampirical Solutions are about to break ground new facilities in St. Tammany Parish.
Medline is slated to build a new distribution center to replace a smaller facility in the area. The new project will total 800,000-square-feet. Medline says 464 new jobs will be created at the larger facility said to be located near Covington. The budget for the new center is estimated at $53 million.
Ampirical Solutions is a nation-wide company specializing in electrical infrastructure engineering, design and construction management. It's building a new headquarters near Covington and consolidating existing offices into the new 78,000-square-foot office building.
Ampirical will create 400 new direct jobs over the next decade, with an average annual salary of more than $85,000, plus benefits. Ampirical will retain 120 existing jobs, with the project generating an estimated 350 construction jobs. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project amount to a $20 million capital investment.
The added benefit of new job creation is a bolstering of the indirect jobs market. Medline will generate upwards of 611 new indirect jobs and Ampirical will bring add 244 indirect positions to the indirect job numbers. In all there will be a total of 864 new direct hires coming on line, with an estimated a bump of 855 new indirect jobs will be created as well.
