New Orleans Independent Police Monitor Susan Hutson today asked the New Orleans City Council to join other cities and states in creating a public database that shows allegations against police officers and what is done about it.
"As you can see, this is moving very swiftly in this direction all around the country," said Hutson. "Our congress is looking at this exact issue as well, and it's already happening in other cities, and we're trying to do it here as well."
It comes amid cries to make sure bad cops are publicly identified.
"During this very important time of change, and where we need to hear the community's voice about change, so I fell that it's a huge tool," said Hutson.
Critics say it unfairly lets everyone see false allegations against cops. The council approved creating the database.
