Unger came to the Saints in the 2015 trade that sent tight end Jimmy Graham to Seattle. He anchored an offensive line that has kept Drew Brees among the least-sacked quarterback in the NFL.
Unger, 32, reportedly had a year left on his contract.
The Saints have Will Clapp, coming off his rookie season, and second-year man Cameron Tom, on the roster at center.
