Despite New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell saying that the city should not host any major events during 2020, there are reports the Republican National Committee is considering New Orleans for the new home of the party's nominating convention.
President Trump announced he would not be nominated for reelection in North Carolina as planned because that state is now reopening quickly enough.
The Associated Press reports that Nashville, Orlando, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Dallas, New Orleans, sites in Georgia and Phoenix are under consideration.
Republican leaders are expected to conduct site visits soon.
Cantrell said in April, "My recommendation is absolutely no large events such as French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest, even Essence Festival, as it relates to the year 2020."
The mayor said that the focus should shift to 2021.
After her comments one major event after another called of plans for festivals, conventions and other gatherings.
