Another holiday weekend is approaching -- and with it, worries of people spreading the coronavirus, which is showing no signs of going away or even slowing down.
New Orleans Mayor's Office spokesman Beau Tidwell is urging folks to resist the urge to plan big events.
"We are seeing cause for concern in terms of large gatherings," said Tidwell. "Under the phase two guidelines for Orleans Parish, gatherings are capped, still, at a hundred people, or 50 percent of your capacity, whichever is less."
The city also requires one person per every 50 to make sure people maintain social distance.
"As we move into the 4th of July weekend, we ask everyone, please stay safe," Tidwell urged. "The way we don't get a bad spike in two weeks is every body is smart right now, and in this moment."
Tidwell says a task force the mayor has created to deal with social distancing, mask-wearing, and other COVID-fighting matters, and they will meet today.
"The mayor has pulled together a task force of multiple agencies internally, and external partners, to address that," he said, "to review any policies that need to be put in place or examined going into the holiday weekend."
