Local health officials say there is no known coronavirus in the state.
"There have been no diagnosed coronavirus cases in the Louisiana or the city of New Orleans," Dr. Jennifer Avegno, Director of the New Orleans Health Department told reporters.
She says that they are preparing for that possibility.
"We had a series of meetings with our health care facilities, hospitals, as well as the airport representatives, tourism representatives."
Dr. Avegno says While the risk of the general public contracting coronavirus in New Orleans is currently low, officials continue to prepare.
"The best way to prepare for any respiratory illness is to stay at home when you are sick, cover your cough, and wash your hands."
She says the flu is widespread this season and suggests getting the flu shot.
