New Orleans faces paying millions of dollars between the partial-collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel in October, and December’s cyber attack on city government computers.
Speaking at a city council budget committee meeting today, chief administration officer Gilbert Mantano estimates the cost to deal with the collapse site has reached some $11.6 million.
“These costs include personnel, equipment, supplies, initial damage estimates to city property, and estimates of some lost revenue for city agencies,” said Mantano.
Mantano details the cost of city property damage to nearby streets, drainage, changes to RTA street car routs and infrastructure will cost the city $2.8 million of that final cost estimate. Nearly $1 million dollars has been paid to the New Orleans Fire Department for around-the-clock public safety.
This comes on top the cost to recover from a devastating cyber attack back in December.
Mantano tells city council members the cyber attack recovery has cost $3 million so far. But, he says future costs to repair and fortify computer systems, could add an additional $4 million, totaling more than $7 million to the city.
