The toilet paper hoarding has forced some people who can't find it in stores to resort to alternatives, and it is taking its toll on the New Orleans sewerage system.
The Sewerage and Water Board says it is dealing with more sewer backups than normal, and is asking people to think before they flush. Even New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell took to Twitter with this plea:
Please think before you flush. All wipes are not created equal. Toilet paper breaks down right away yet don’t flush too much at once. Remember we have some 100 year old pipes. @SWBNewOrleans pic.twitter.com/SpKHxj67aw
