New Orleans Police homicide detectives arrested a suspect in stabbing murder just hours after the crime. Fifty-eight-year-old Darryl Hawthorne faces one count of second degree murder.
"At approximately 7:37 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers received a call for service concerning an injured man at the location," said police. "Officers and EMS arrived to find a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the body. The victim was declared deceased at the scene, at which time NOPD Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation."
Police say they detained Hawthorne at the scene, and upon further investigation, determined he was their suspect.
"As the investigation progressed, NOPD homicide detectives were able to positively identify Hawthorne as the perpetrator in this incident, and obtain a warrant for his arrest," said NOPD. "Hawthorne was arrested and transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked for second degree murder."
