The New Orleans Police Department says it will issue citations and/or summons when possible, rather than bringing people in for booking, while public health emergency conditions exist.

During this public health crisis, the NOPD is issuing citations and/or summons when possible rather than taking people into physical custody for low-level offenses. But the NOPD maintains the authority to arrest any individual actively breaking the law.
