New Orleans may be entering phase one of reopening this Saturday, but public gatherings "larger than a household size" will remain prohibited. And the head of the New Orleans Police Department said officers will continue to enforce that.
While New Orleans begins phase one of business reopening Saturday morning, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson says officers will continue efforts to make sure residents follow safe practices.
"The ban on gatherings larger than a household size remains in effect," Chief Ferguson said. "That means no second lines, no parades, no block parties until further notice."
The chief says people witnessing violations should report them to 311.
"We will continue to issue warnings whenever possible," the chief said, "but our level of enforcement will depend on the compliance of you, the business owners and residents of New Orleans."
Ferguson said tougher action can be taken if necessary.
"This may result in a misdemeanor citation which has a $500 fine and/or six months in jail," he said.
