Louisiana State Police are investigating the death of a woman who was struck by two cars on US 190 at the Bayou Castine Bridge in St. Tammany Parish.
Troopers say the woman was struck while walking in the eastbound lane of US 190 around 5:40 Saturday afternoon.
State Police note that that bridge has high concrete guardrails and no shoulders.
The woman was struck first by a car driven by a 37-year-old man. She landed in the center of the eastbound lane and was struck again by another car, driven by a 17-year-old girl.
The victim was taken to Lakeview Regional Medical Center and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The coroner’s office is now seeking help identifying the woman. She is an African-American, believed to be in her mid to late 30s. She was wearing dark clothes and black earrings at the time of the incident. The coroner's office notes she has stretch marks on her abdomen.
According to State Police, witness statements indicated the woman was staggering in the roadway when struck by the first vehicle. Both drivers and passengers of the cars were wearing their seat belts and not injured. State Police say there were no amounts of alcohol present after both drivers submitted breath samples.
Anyone with information on the identity of the woman is asked to call the coroner's office at 985-781-1150.
