Authorities say a woman is dead after and early morning collision on the I-12.
"Shortly before 1:00 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 12 eastbound west of LA 21 in St. Tammany Parish," Trooper Jeremy Price said in a news release.
He said 36-year-old Tiffany A. Peterson of Covington died.
"The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Peterson was eastbound on Interstate 12 in a 2015 Nissan Altima. For reasons still under investigation, Peterson’s vehicle rear-end impacted a 2020 Freightliner 18-wheeler."
The trooper says that the car went under the truck.
"Peterson was properly restrained but died from injuries sustained in the crash. She was pronounced deceased on scene by the St Tammany Parish Coroner’s office."
Price says they believe Peterson was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
"Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. As a part of the investigation, a blood sample was collected for scientific analysis from Peterson."
