It's going to be a rare carnival treat in the summer.
The Mystic Krewe of Nyx announced that they will have a parade in the middle of the summer.
Nyx will roll down a new route on July 27 for their first ever summer parade.
“The Krewe of Nyx has consistently raised the bar,” Founder and Captain Julie Lea said. “We think it is a great way to bring additional revenue and tourism to the city during the summer. A summer parade is a logical and fun bridge from one Mardi Gras season to the next.” And they'll even have a signature throw. Instead of purses, Nyx members will throw bejeweled plastic beach shovels.
The krewe will begin at Elysian Fields, roll down Elysian Fields to North Peters, from North Peters to Decatur past Jackson Square to Canal, Canal to Burgundy, make a U-turn to Tchoupitoulas, then Tchoupitoulas to Andrew Higgins.
