Only 4 new coronavirus deaths reported over 24 hours in Louisiana

Hours before Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards was set to announce if the state can proceed to Phase 2 of reopening the economy, Louisiana health officials announced just four new deaths over a 24 hour period.

That is the lowest number in a day since the beginning of the coronavirus spread in Louisiana.  The state death toll is now 2,690.

There are now 661 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state.

That's a drop of 17 from yesterday and a far cry from the more than 2,100 at the peak in April.

The number of patients on ventilators remains below 100 after a peak of more than 560.

Overall there are now 40,341 cases in the state, up by 425 today.

An update of presumed recovered also shows that is now up to 31,728 for Louisiana.
