After just five months on the job, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office employee Jacobi Rhodes is suspended and could be terminated very soon.
The 22-year-old recruit was suspended after a search of his locker found a number of contraband items inside.
Sheriff’s first learned of the contraband when co-workers reported smelling marijuana coming from the locker.
A search turned up nearly seven grams of the illegal weed and three hand-rolled marijuana cigars.
Also discovered in the search were 20-packets of Suboxone, a drug used to treat opioid addiction that dissolves under the tongue.
Rhodes was arrested and charges of malfeasance of office, introducing contraband into a penal institution, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and suboxone.
“We cannot tolerate this type of activity on the part of anyone and we remain vigilant about keeping contraband out of our facilities.” Sheriff Marlin Gusman told WWL-TV.
Sheriff Gusman expects more arrests to be made.
