The NOPD says detectives are looking for suspects in two daylight armed robberies on Tuesday.

The first happened on Canal Street outside the University Medical Center around seven o' clock in the morning.

"The victim stated she was walking to work when an unknown black male approached her from behind," according to the report. "The subject placed her in a choke hold, demanded her property and pulled out a knife."

Officers say the 36-year-old woman was cut twice during the struggle.

"The victim complied and the subject fled north bound on Canal Street. The victim did sustain two lacerations, one to each hand."

That was in the 1900 block of Canal St.

About four hours later a crew working on street repairs was held up at gunpoint.

"Victims were spreading concrete in the street when they were approached by a subject with a gun," the Major Offense Report explains. "The subject demanded vehicle keys, and the victims complied."

The armed robber then took off in one of the victims' trucks.

"The subject got three sets of keys and entered a brown 2008 Chevrolet Silverado w/Louisiana license plate #C703591. The subject then fled."

This happened just before 11:00am at Western St. and Mirabeau Ave. in Gentilly.

NOPD later released the following on the second incident:

At about 2:30 p.m., three males were doing concrete work at the intersection when an unknown black male – described as standing approximately 5’10” with a thin frame and short hair, wearing dark clothing – allegedly pointed a black handgun at them. The male demanded keys from the three males, and all three workers complied. The male then reportedly entered one of the victims’ vehicles – the pictured brown 2008 Chevrolet Silverado bearing Louisiana license plate C703591 – and fled the area.

Additionally, NOPD Third District detectives believe that a black Jeep Cherokee bearing Louisiana license plate 305AAF may also have be involved in the armed robbery. The Jeep was reported stolen from the 6700 block of Dorchester Street, in the Seventh District, on February 8. A photo of the Jeep, captured from a city license plate reader camera, is included.
