Americans will spend more than $480 million this year on Halloween costumes – for their pets.  This, according to the National Retail Federation, is more than twice the amount spent in 2010, when they first starting tracking pet costumes.

Here in New Orleans, we love any excuse to dress up, and including our pets is a no- brainer.  Kianna Riley, from Pet Cetera on Magazine Street, tells us that sales of Halloween costumes for pets are definitely up this year.

“The big sellers this year have been dinosaurs, bats, and turtles,” said Riley. “The second most popular would be the princesses.”

The National Retail Federation named the pumpkin costume as the top pet costume this year.

And what do our fur-babies do when they are all dressed up?  They go trick-or-treating, of course.  So, be sure and add a bowl of dog treats next to your candy bowl for tonight.

“Halloween themed dog biscuits, pumpkin and sweet potato, nothing too sugary,” suggests Riley. “And of course, no chocolate!”
