With election qualifying will finally come an answer to a question in Jefferson Parish politics that has been lingering nearly three years -- is Parish President Mike Yenni in or out?
"I don't see any signs that Yenni is putting together a campaign team or doing any of the things that a serious candidate does," said Gambit political columnist Clancy DuBos. "I've been in touch with people around Yenni, and they all say, 'well, he's still thinking about it, meeting with his family, etcetera."
A recall effort failed, but both Jefferson Parish Public Schools and Archdiocese of New Orleans schools politely informed Yenni he would no longer be allowed on any campus.
"This whole business of Yenni and the sexting scandal has been one surprise after another," said DuBos. "So we'll see if Mike Yenni has one more surprise up his sleeve."
Councilwoman Cynthia Lee Sheng and former Jefferson Parish President John Young both qualified minutes after the sign up period began this morning.
Qualifying ends at 4:30 Thursday afternoon.
