The Randazzo family has lost a patriarch.
"New Orleans mourns the loss of Manuel Randazzo, Sr., the last remaining creator of the original Randazzo family king cake recipe," his family posted on Facebook.Randazzo was 91.
His legacy lives on in Manny Randazzo King Cakes, Randazzo's King Cakes, Nonna Randazzo's Bakery, and Caywood & Randazzo Bakery.
The Randazzo king cake has been a New Orleans tradition since 1965.
"In death, he is preceded by co-creators of the Randazzo recipe, his brothers, Lawrence and Tony Randazzo, and their father, Sam Randazzo."
The Randazzo family says he lives on in every king cake baked and with every experience shared among family and friends.
