Residents in Jefferson Parish affected financially from the COVID-19 pandemic can apply for rent and mortgage assistance.
A statement from Jefferson Parish says, “The Jefferson Parish Community Action Programs (JeffCAP) and Jefferson Parish Department of Community Development will assist eligible residents of Jefferson Parish with applications for emergency rent and mortgage assistance on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.”
JeffCAP will help residents apply for the Community Service Block Grant, which is a one-time payment assistance for renters and homeowners in need of paying their rent or mortgage payments.
The parish says, “Applicants are not eligible if assistance was received in 2019 or if enrolled in a housing program such as Section-8. Community Development will accept applications for HUD Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA). Recipients must be willing to participate in case management activities for TBRA payment assistance. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements established by both the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA). Individuals should bring copies of eligibility documents.”
Applicants can apply for assistance at the Oakdale Playground Gymnasium, 650 Wall Blvd., in Gretna on August 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Applicants will have to wear masks and undergo health screenings before entering the gymnasium.
