Williams told the publication he is aware of the probes by both the FBI and IRS, and says the problems began with his former tax-preparer, Henry Timothy. Williams sued Timothy this week in New Orleans civil court, alleging accounting malpractice and other claims.
Williams also said political operatives for New Orleans District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro brought the tax issues to the feds' attention. Williams has announced plans to run against Cannizzaro, a frequent target of Williams' criticism about the criminal justice system.
Cannizzaro says he has nothing to do with the investigation.
