If you're looking for something to do before tonight's Uptown parades, there's plenty.
Rex will arrive at the newly-renovated Spanish Plaza on the downtown riverfront by train, to accept command of the Crescent City for 24 hours. He's due at 6 p.m.
Rex spokesman King Logan says this year's Rex arrival will be history-making.
"It'll be the first Lundi Gras and the first Mardi Gras for the first female mayor in the city's history," said Logan. "I suspect she's looking forward to this as much as Rex will be looking forward to it, as well."
Shortly after that, the royal court of Zulu arrives to greet Rex.
"The highlight of this, since 1999, has been the arrival of the delegation from Zulu," said Logan. "The two monarchs will greet and toast each other and exchange gifts, and do a little bit of speech-making," followed by a fireworks display over the river.
Before Rex arrives, the crowd will be entertained by the likes of Darcy Malone & The Tangle, Rockin' Dopsie Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters, and Cowboy Mouth. The musical performances begin shortly after noon.
