Road work is underway to improve a stretch of Marconi Drive and Orleans Avenue as the two one way streets run along the west side of City Park.
The three million dollar project aims to repave the roadway. Other repairs include fixing broken sidewalks and driveways.
The project will run the length of Marconi and Orleans from City Park Avenue to Zachary Taylor Drive, just north of the 610 bridge.
A City Business story says the $3-million for the project is coming from federal sources. The roadway will be reconfigured as a new pedestrian island for bus passengers is constructed.
New pedestrian and bicyclist improvements are also coming in like ADA-compliant curb-cuts and new bike lanes on Marconi drive along City Park and on Orleans Avenue facing Delgado Community College.
One lane will be open in each direction during the new island construction. There will also be no parking on Marconi or Orleans.
Construction work will begine every morning at 7am and wrap by 5:30pm. New Orleans is coordinating the management at City Park and Delgado Community College to ease parking restrictions during the construction times and for events at both facilities.
The project is expected to be finished in November.
